I was thinking about how I see all these kids my age starting to get really serious about their art and their passions and how I haven’t really ever gotten serious to the point where I challenged myself to do something and then did it.

As you may or may not know, I’m a writer. Well, I can’t really call myself much of a writer because my portfolio is seriously lacking in quantity. And that’s what bugs me. All these talented kids are getting so serious and starting so early while I’m just lounging around waiting for inspiration to strike. I say nay to this, I can’t do this anymore. I have to get serious about my work.

So I came up with this little idea. You see, I’m a HUGE fan of baby steps; always have been, always will be. And everything I’ve read advice-wise towards aspiring authors tells me I should start small and write about what I know. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a bit ridiculous for me to expect myself to write full novels at my stage of ability. Therefore, I need to take a step back from what I’ve been concentrating on—novels—and start over with something more reasonable: short stories.

Now I know myself pretty well, so I know that I won’t just do something if I tell myself to do it. I’m bad—like, really, really bad—at self discipline. So I needed to challenge myself.

The challenge: 7 short stories in a week (one per day). This challenge would seriously build up my portfolio and would be a great way for me to share my work.

The reason I’m sharing this with you guys (all of Tumblr and whatnot) was because I was wondering if I made a new tumblog specifically for the Seven Days challenge, would any of you follow it, or read it, and maybe give feed back, or maybe even join me (for those of you who are writers as well)?

Maybe if the challenge ends in success I could make this a bi-monthly thing or something. I dunno, I’m just really excited about this idea and I’m going to probably start Sunday and I thought it might be cool to share something I’m passionate about since I see all these kids with their photography and their music while I just waste away my own talents.
